• Waste Classification

Welcome to the new HazWasteOnline Academy.  This is a new initiative from OneTouchData to provide more on-line training resources for waste classifiers and HazWasteOnline users. Whilst this site is in its very early days of development, our plan is to develop more on-line training resources so that students can learn from home, at a time and pace of their choosing.

It will take time to develop the new online training courses, so please bear with us as the courses evolve.

(March 2020) This development has been somewhat overtaken by the current pandemic which has forced us to move from face-to-face presentations to webinars using Zoom. To support these webinars we have added all the workshop materials from our two day Waste Classification courses and the Refresher course to this platform.

Available courses

This module manages the workshop and appendix materials for Day 1

This module manages the workshop and appendix materials for Day 2

This module manages the  materials for the Refresher Course's workshops and appendices. It also has a quiz that students are required to take before the course starts.

You would attend a refresher course if you last completed our two day Hazardous Waste Classification course more than 3 years ago.

It is important for you to attend refresher training to renew any outdated or obsolete information picked up from previous training and to fill in gaps in your knowledge. In the last three years, regulations, guidance, HazWasteOnline functionality have all changed and advanced. You may have also picked up some bad habits or missed a piece of functionality that if used would improve both your practice and waste classification outcomes.

This quiz is to be undertaken by all students who have booked HazWasteOnline's Hazardous Waste Classification Refresher course.  It comprises a series of multiple choice type question that need to be completed 24 hours before the face to face training course.

This is a Level 1 course - introduces the basics of waste classification

This course introduces the classification of waste by hand. It starts from the point where a mirror entry pair of codes has been selected (Course 101_3) and the laboratory analysis  has been received.

The objectives of the course are to be  able to classify a sample manually, to understand the links between Annex VI, Table 3 of the CLP, the thresholds in Table 2.1 of WM3, the information in the guidance (both UK and EU)  and to understand  the basic terminology including hazard statements, conversion factors, Note 1 entries, group entries, additivity and cut-offs.

After completing this unit, you will have an understanding of all the fundamental terminology, where the data, the rules and calculations come from and how they fit together. This will give you a working knowledge of waste classification (and how complicated it is to do by hand.)
